I am not calling you snooty. If it came off that way, I apologize.
I was referring to those self who seek to impose their aesthetics on others.

Architects who treat the world as their private canvas, a playground for their self indulgence, are not doing their job. Their job is give us, the public, what we want. When they are design only to win accolades from other architects with a let-the-great-unwashed-be-damned attitude, they are not merely being condescending elitists, they are thieves. They steal large chunks of the commons for the personal aggrandisement. Or , to repeat, selfish,,, arrogant.

Thank you for your supportive words about my involvement with Occupy. I do believe that that in the case of Brutalist architecture, we have an example of an empowered 1% ( arhitects and self-described sophisticates) imposing their will on
the 99% who with clear and honest eyes are repulsed by its ugliness..

Out of curiosity, how do you know of my Occupy activities? Do I know you? If so, please forgive my failure to recognize your name,
Bennett

Not sure how posting on my own personal blog can be considered an imposition on "the rest of us", but I do see how you might consider them snooty, selfish and/or arrogant. I guess I'm just used to only having people who know me, and therefore know how to take my random comments, read this blog. Thanks for taking the time to share your opinion Bennett. We're all entitled to an opinion, and mine is one that is simply considering the architectural merit of the building itself, and it's clearly from the point of view of an architecture student who happens to be a fan of Paul Rudolph..

But I'm not an Orange County resident, and have no say in the future of this building and with that in mind I haven't attempted to vote on the various petitions that are floating around. I'm just mouthing off. Don't worry, I have little influence. None in fact.

If it's any consolation, I do support what you're doing in relation to the Occupy movement, and wish you all the best with your endeavours.
